Unified research for Migration Exchange

In 2022 Migration Exchange commissioned a piece of research on leadership in the refugee and migration sector in the UK. A report, slide deck, and social media cards would be used to present the results of the research. These assets all needed to look like they were part of the same piece of communication, while identifying the leadership conversation as a separate topic from previous documents.

Consistent graphic treatment unifies the various assets required, though its’ flexibility allows it to be applied and recognised across different formats. This graphic is based on the content itself: a cluster of different sized triangles represents the diversity of voices included in the research through quotes, and a lighter larger triangle frames them, like the snapshot mentioned in the title. The use of light teal separates the report from previous documents, while the use of simple geometric shapes connects it by speaking a similar visual language.

Thanks for the great job you did on the recent MEX report. It looks really good and the team really appreciated your responsiveness and attention to detail.

The report is focused on ease of legibility, with spots of the overarching graphic scattered across the pages to tie everything together visually.

Ease of legibility

All the elements that make up its content are identifiable, without taking any attention away from the flow of the text, see for example the quotes and testimonials from the research participants.

Accessibility

Having just a bright orange as the brand colour would lead to issues as it is not accessible on white, while using black to resolve this would not match the warm quality of the Enabled Entrepreneur brand.

A larger palette was created with a close eye on both accessibility and brand representation, and its usage clearly defined in the guideline document.

PowerPoint

The research is also going to be presented to different audiences through a slide deck. This needs to be editable depending on the presentation’s specific context and audience. The overarching graphic is used more extensively here to ensure the slides feel cohesive and visually interesting throughout, while the text is again treated with ease of legibility as the primary concern.

The social media images were set up in Canva so that the team at Migration Exchange would be able to edit the content themselves and select different quotes from the report as appropriate. The quote social media card in particular was set up so that it could accommodate different length quotes and still work visually.
